Swept Away
My thoughts are being swept away
Like waves crashing into water,
Trying to break free,
Rise up and touch the surface,
Only to be dragged back under
Black currents of solemn laughter.
My thoughts are being swept away
Like bookshelf dust,
Like sneezing pollen,
Like sleepy sand
That takes me back
To unknown lands
And a thousand unfurnished rooms.
My thoughts are being swept away
Like clouds of smoke
Dancing off the burning tip
Of my tragic cigarette,
Caught in the wind and
Spiraling away
As I cough black death
Deep into my lungs.
My thoughts are being swept away
Until I can't remember yesterday,
Seconds drip like leaky faucets
And minutes fall beneath the rocky horizon,
Slipping just out of view
Until I swear the only
Memory I'm left with
Is of me and you.
Like waves crashing into water,
Trying to break free,
Rise up and touch the surface,
Only to be dragged back under
Black currents of solemn laughter.
My thoughts are being swept away
Like bookshelf dust,
Like sneezing pollen,
Like sleepy sand
That takes me back
To unknown lands
And a thousand unfurnished rooms.
My thoughts are being swept away
Like clouds of smoke
Dancing off the burning tip
Of my tragic cigarette,
Caught in the wind and
Spiraling away
As I cough black death
Deep into my lungs.
My thoughts are being swept away
Until I can't remember yesterday,
Seconds drip like leaky faucets
And minutes fall beneath the rocky horizon,
Slipping just out of view
Until I swear the only
Memory I'm left with
Is of me and you.
